REVIEW

Joe Brown is exuberantly cheerful and Una Stubbs is cheerfully exuberant in one of those groovy '60s musicals where everything is a cue to burst into song (stuck at the traffic lights? Let's start singing!). With a script by Carry On/Up Pompeii legend Talbot Rothwell and multiple Oscar winner Leslie Bricusse (who's also responsible for the tunes) Three Hats for Lisa is a breathless, swinging romp across all the notable '60s London landmarks.

Three Hats for Lisa

Sid Hayers, taking a break from the usual action/adventure furrow he ploughed so successfully, directs Lisa with a definite sense of vigour, while Brown and Stubbs have stiff competition in the screen-grabbing stakes from Sid James (playing Sid James), Peter Bowles (always a pleasure) and foxy French ingénue Sophie Hardy as the titular heroine. Three Hats for Lisa, however, will certainly be best remembered as the film in which Sid James not only sang but danced... it is not a pretty sight but undoubtedly worth the price of admission alone.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Featuring a cast and production crew that reads like a Who’s Who of British Sixties talent, Three Hats for Lisa is an exuberant, whimsical and utterly irresistible musical romp set in the heart of Swinging London; Sidney Hayers directs, while Oscar- and Grammy-winning composer Leslie Bricusse supplies the songs. Three Hats for Lisa is available here in a brand-new transfer from the original film elements.

French movie pin-up Sophie Hardy is Lisa Milan, a gorgeous Continental film star who’s just arrived at Heathrow. She’s in London for the premiere of her latest film, but within minutes she’s been whisked away by her number-one fan, Johnny Howjego and his Cockney pals Sammy, Flora and cabbie Sid. The film traces the quartet’s adventures as they take in the capital’s iconic sights and sounds in the pursuit of three very important and typically British souvenirs for Lisa: a bowler, a busby, and a policeman’s helmet!
