Town Like Alice (A): Special Edition
Adapted from Nevil Shute‘s poignant novel, Jean Paget (Virginia McKenna - Born Free, Marple) is a prisoner in a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp, compelled to trek through Malaya at bayonet point during the occupation. She meets captive Australian, Joe Harman (Peter Finch - Network, The Trials of Oscar Wilde), and there is an instant magnetism between them. As they talk to each other during their confinement, Jean learns about Joe's hometown of Alice Springs and how he hopes one day to return there. To relieve the sufferings of the gallant women prisoners, Joe steals food from the Japanese to give to the women.
