“One should never meet a person whose work one admires. What they do is always so much better than what they are.”

John Huston’s lavish Technicolor double-Oscar winner Moulin Rouge stars José Ferrer (Cyrano de Bergerac) and Zsa Zsa Gabor (Touch of Evil) in this poignant, emotional drama. Luminous cinematography by Oscar winner Oswald Morris (Fiddler on the Roof) combines with Georges Auric’s lush musical score to create a truly memorable film.

In the second half of the 19th Century, the crippled artist Toulouse-Lautrec finds friendship amongst the dancers of the Moulin Rouge, the hottest night haunt in Paris. There he meets Marie (Collette Marchand), a young girl in desperate need of help, and eagerly becomes her champion. In fear of the police who are after her, Marie persuades Lautrec to take her home with him, and soon he has a mistress for the first time in his life. But their relationship is a turbulent one and after discovering that Marie is deceiving him Lautrec finally throws her out, only to discover one final heartbreaking secret about the woman he loved.
