Before he directed the Oscar-nominated NO, Pablo Larraín made another film dealing with the earliest days of Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet’s reign – the military coup that brought him to power in the award-winning POST MORTEM. This forms the second in his “Pinochet” Trilogy after TONY MANERO, also available from Network; taken together with NO, they form a powerful, complex and moving look at one of the most controversial and often turbulent periods in the history of his native country.
Against this terrifying and murderous backdrop POST MORTEM tells the story of an apparently insignificant and charmless couple whose poignant relationship is played out amid the death and destruction that results from military ideals imposed with no care for their cost or consequences.
Employing a still, dream-like cinematography, Larraín weaves a complex and poetic tale from this terrifyingly tragic situation which affected an entire country and still resonates to this day.
NO is released in cinemas across the UK on 8th February.
