The French-Canadian wonder-kid announced his arrival on the international scene as a hugely talented writer, actor and director with this complex, turbulent expose of the relationship between a mother and her son.
The film focuses on Hubert (played by Xavier Dolan, but of course) who is caught between his love and contempt for his single mum and her ways. Battling through the complexity of his feelings in the destructive surroundings of his own home, he discovers the mysteries of adolescence and his own sexuality.
Off the back of the success of I Killed My Mother, Dolan would go onto prove he was no flash in the pan with the equally impressive Heartbeats and the critically acclaimed epic Laurence Anyways.
