Surrounded by hype, mystique and critics awaiting his fall from grace, Dolan confirmed his credentials as one of the most exciting young film makers in the world with the stunning Heartbeats.
The film explores the complex relationship between three hip French Canadian teenagers. Francis (Xavier Dolan, no surprises there) and Marie’s (Monia Chokri) close friendship is severely tested when they meet Nicholas (Niels Schneider), a new arrival from the country.
Nicholas, a beautiful and mysterious young man, becomes the object of desire for both Francis and Marie and as their obsessive attraction spirals out of control, the cracks in their friendship begin to show.
Full of emotion, seduction and humour, Heartbeats received a standing ovation from the Cannes audience, as well as taking home the top prize at the Sydney Film festival.
