Theo Van Gogh Collection (The)
A celebrated but controversial talent, international fi lmmaker Theo van Gogh won the Dutch equivalent of an Academy Award, the Golden Calf, for Best Direction an unprecedented four times. After his shocking murder by Islamic extremists, producers Bruce Weiss and Gijs van de Westelaken decided to fulfil Van Gogh’s dream project of remaking in English what are arguably his three best films, using top Hollywood talent. Presented here together for the first time are all three in their original Dutch versions.
An enthralling triptych on the nature of personal relationships, the three films in this set – Blind Date, 1-900 and Interview – are by turns shocking, outrageous, funny and, most importantly, enduringly human: a middle-aged journalist interviews the real-life Dutch star Katja Schuurman in her own loft; a couple pretend to be strangers on blind dates in order to recapture lost romance following tragedy; and two lonely professionals meet through a phone sex line once a week.
With 1-900 winning both the Special Jury Prize and the Critics’ Prize at the Holland Film Festival, and all three films big hits on the festival circuit, this set collects three remarkable films from a remarkable talent.
These films are available for non-theatrical bookings. If you run a film society and you wish to organise a screening of any of these, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org, who will be happy to discuss this with you further.
