The police are after Jack Barrett (Peter McEnery). He has stolen £2,300 from the building construction firm that employs him as a wages clerk. Despite being an ordinary young man of twenty-three years of age he is scared out of his wits by the crisis that is mounting - and they are circumstances beyond his control - Barrett is being blackmailed. While he is on the run, he tries desperately to get in touch with Melville Farr (Dirk Bogarde – Morte a Venezia, The Servant), a prosperous young barrister with a beautiful wife and a brilliantly successful career ahead of him. But the police catch up with him. Just before he is arrested he tries to destroy some cuttings and photographs relating to Farr. And in his police cell, rather than answer the probing questions that Inspector Harris has put to him, he commits suicide.
The Barrett affair comes dangerously close to Farr’s own home. But Mel’s relief is due to the knowledge that by going away, Laura will be spared the humiliation of the scandal that will unravel when he has identified the blackmailers and his past is, in turn, exposed... This BAFTA-nominated film starring the great Dirk Bogarde in one of his career-best performances also includes excellent support from Sylvia Syms (Ice Cold in Alex, At Home with the Braithwaites) and Denis Price (The Naked Truth, I'm All Right Jack).
This release of Victim is being presented in its original aspect ratio of 1.66:1 and is accompanied by the original theatrical trailer and “Dirk Bogarde in Conversation” – a thirty minute interview where he talks about his body of work, including Victim.
