Richard Donner, the director of Superman and Lethal Weapon, captures the spirit, imagination and fresh sexual attitudes of the ‘Swinging Sixties’ in TWINKY, a retelling of Kubrick’s Lolita.
TWINKY is the story of a worldly-wise sixteen year old Sybil Londonderry known to her friends as Twinky (Susan George - Straw Dogs), who falls for a mature writer of erotic fiction Scott Wardman (Charles Bronson – Once Upon a Time in the West, Deathwish) that she meets at a party. Twinky doesn't know if she's a schoolgirl or a woman. Bright as a new penny, adolescent and insecure, pert and pixie-like, naive and charmingly awkward, yet partly precocious and mature, she's in the process of finding out fast. Bursting with happiness following their first sexual encounter and desperately in love with love, Twinky confides all to both her diary and the family solicitor. Maybe it’s not a wise decision, as soon her family finds out…
The first British feature film to be photographed in colour on location in New York, TWINKY is stylishly directed by Donner and features a strong supporting ensemble cast including Michael Craig (The Angry Silence), Honor Blackman (The Avengers), Robert Morley (Tales of the Unexpected) and Jack Hawkins (The League of Gentlemen).
