Made in Jamaica: The Soundtrack
MADE IN JAMAICA is the story of how a small island nation of only three million people took their pain and misery and turned those emotions into songs that resonate around the world. At its birth in the 1970s, reggae music was the fi rst chance a third world country had been given to make its voice heard on such a large scale. Emerging from this, dancehall drew large crowds around the globe with its religious influences and a message that was both powerful and straightforward, with lyrics about sex, violence, and social issues.
Here, some of the island’s most famous reggae and dancehall artists, including Gregory Isaacs, Toots Frederick, Bunny Wailer, Elephant Man, Bounty Killer, Third World, Tanya Stephens and Capleton give voice to the culture of Jamaica.
